Founded in 2011, isEFT is an international organization of Emotion Focused Therapy (commonly abbreviated as "EFT") training centers. Emotion Focused Therapy is an empirically-supported psychotherapy approach that views emotions as centrally important in human functioning and therapeutic change. An emotion-focused approach promotes emotional awareness, expression, regulation, understanding and transformation of emotion and the development of empathy as a path to health and well-being in individuals and couples. It is an evidence-based approach to the treatment of problems in living and interpersonal problems and is dedicated to the scientific study of the process of human change in therapy.
This organization is involved in the training of treatment professionals and in the ongoing development of the EFT approach. EFT was initially developed by Dr Leslie Greenberg, in collaboration with Dr. Robert Elliott and Dr. Laura Rice (for individual therapy) and Dr. Sue Johnson (for couples' therapy).
ISEFT exists to promote EFT practice, theory, training, and research by providing a centralized platform for sharing basic knowledge and information about EFT, questions about EFT practice and theory, new developments, training materials, and research tools of relevance to EFT. Our main goal is to create a community of EFT practitioners and scholars. We welcome to this space professionals, lay people, psychotherapy researchers and scholars alike and hope to provide support and discussion to stimulate the sharing of new ideas. We welcome your curiosity, questions, experience, energy and wisdom. Please feel free to make use of the variety of resources contained in these pages, and to offer your own contributions to developing EFT.
